Workshop Overview

Sonic Choreography for Digital Spaces

Creating Audiovisual Systems for Installations & Live Performance in Ableton

Sonic Choreography for Digital Spaces is an intensive, practice-based workshop for artists and creative technologists who want to build expressive audiovisual systems for installations and performances using Ableton Live. Over the course of four hours, participants explore how sound and visuals can influence one a,nother through real-time processes, from data sonification to generative structures.

We will cover how to structure an audiovisual workflow, build audio-responsive elements, design interactive layers, and prepare materials for installation or live performance contexts. The session also highlights best practices for organizing projects, optimizing CPU performance, and creating flexible templates that can adapt to different venues or conceptual needs.

Participants will bring their own laptops and create a personal audiovisual sketch using Ableton and optional visual tools. With only four participants, the workshop allows for deep individual guidance, making it suitable for both beginners and intermediate artists. By the end, each participant will have a functioning prototype, plus a practical understanding of how to continue developing their own audiovisual language.

* We kindly ask all participants to bring a personal laptop with Ableton Live and Max for Live pre-installed to ensure full participation in the hands-on exercises.
* Please be advised that the workshop will be conducted entirely in English.
